We all love to relax over a few drinks with our friends over the weekend and sometimes even go all out and drink till the sun goes down. But what’s the story with most the alcohol we consume? Alcohol actually has no specific historical roots, as experts estimate that the practice of consuming alcohol to date back to approx. 6000-4000 BCE. Earliest trends of usage suggest that alcohol was practiced in vineyards and harvesting areas in order to produce wine in the Black Sea and Caspian region. Other experts believe that the Egyptians used alcohol in 8000 BCE to consume Beer as a health remedy. Nonetheless it’s safe to say that alcohol production has become entirely commercial in the 21st Century.
In nations such as China there are no legal limits on the drinking age, whereas countries such as Pakistan ban it entirely. As we know you have to be eighteen years of age to purchase in Spain, and if you watched our last video you’ll know that Belarus is the nation with the highest rate of alcohol consumption per person, and Mauritania falls at the bottom of the list.
According to data provided by ChartsBin the most consumed alcoholic beverage in Spain remains a classic beer, which generally reflects the trends in the Western World, representing 36% on a global scale. Spirits are the majority choice of beverage as most nations in Asia prefer them over Beers and Wines, resulting a 45% share globally. Based on numbers provided by the Guardian, Korean drink Soju tops the list of most popular alcohol spirit in terms of sales, and does so in volumes which are three times as many as popular brand Smirnoff. Chinese beer brand Snow is the most sold beer worldwide, as it dominates the market with a 5.5% share globally. Unfortunately we had no Snow to give our contestants, but we do have some facts about the interesting drinks you may have seen or tasted on the show.

In the USA alone there are over 17.6 million people addicted to alcohol, roughly 1 in every 12 adults. Every year figure this leads to 88,000 deaths in the country, where 3/4 of the victims are men. Culture Clash advises you to drink, but do so responsibly.
